Dysphonia refers to any voice change. This can occur after trauma to the voice system including the larynx and vocal cords. Dysarthria occurs from neurological damage that impacts how the brain signals the motor speech muscles. Symptoms include slurred speech, monotone speech, rapid speech, and uneven volume among other difficulties. Treatment includes strategy training, controlling breathing, controlling muscle movements and intensive practice.
